PYO-Pasquinelli Young Orchestra
Named after the Foundation who has been the first partner of Sistema in Lombardy since its inception, it is dedicated to children aged 8 to 12, and usually performs pieces from classical and popular repertoire chosen for their specific affinity with the growth of kid musicians.
It was presented in public for the first time in June 2013 during a concert at the Basilica di San Marco in Milan. In February 2014 PYO performed a program centered on “Dances from the World” in the Milanese series for young audiences “I Pomeriggi Musicali” with coordinating conductor Carlo Taffuri, then played in several events in Milan and other towns in Lombardy.
It gathers the most advanced young musicians from the current and aspiring Nucleos, has been the first achievement of the Sistema in Lombardy: an ongoing schedule of public concerts, intertwined with an explicit awareness of the humanitarian goals of social music-making, bears witness to the training purposes of the orchestra. The growth of this symphonic ensemble can be traced since its debut under the baton of Daniele Rustioni in 2011, during the first campaign for collecting musical instruments “Costruire con la Musica” (Building with Music), organized in cooperation with Music Fund, Milano Musica and Teatro alla Scala. As highlights of 2012, two appearances with Ennio Morricone (at Teatro degli Arcimboldi in Milan and Parco della Musica in Rome) were complemented with a number of concerts with Alessandro Cadario, who shares the music directorship of the orchestra with Pietro Mianiti. Together, they led over 300 instrumentalists and singers in the largest presentation of Sistema Lombardia at the Basilica di San Marco in Milan in June 2013.
During the first “Sistema Week in Lombardy” in November 2013, Venezuelan Maestro Manuel López Gómez – who describes himself as “an authentic son of El Sistema” – conducted FuturOrchestra in works by Mozart and Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, within the season of “I Pomeriggi Musicali”, the established series of Teatro Dal Verme in Milan. FuturOrchestra was guest of “I Pomeriggi Musicali” also in November 2014 during the second “Sistema Week in Lombardy”. In 2014 and 2015 other important concerts were performed in Milan, Cremona and Novara.
Soloists such as Enrico Dindo, Gabriele Cassone, Jeffrey Swann and Maurizio Zanini, who share principles and goals of the Sistema, have performed with FuturOrchestra, thus contributing to its artistic development. The activities of the ensemble have been recorded in a documentary by the title “School of Music, School of Life” which was broadcast by SkyArte in the first months of 2014.
Over 20 members from FuturOrchestra are taking part in the “National Orchestra of Sistema Italia”, whose debut with Oscar-winning composer Nicola Piovani for the Christmas Concert at the Italian Senate was broadcast live on Eurovision in 2013. To be mentioned two other main concerts in Rome in 2014: in July, again with Piovani, for the 50th anniversary of the Gemelli Hospital; in November for the semester of the Italian Presidency of the Council of the EU, with the extraordinary participation of the musicians of the Sistema Naciònal de las Orquestas Juveniles y Infantiles de Venezuela directed by Dietrich Paredes.
SONG Choir & “MANI BIANCHE” Choir
Founded by Dario Grandini in 2012 and coordinated by Pilar Bravo, it involves a number of vocal groups whose approach shares the Sistema educational aims. An important side of its activity is the collaboration with the “Mani Bianche” Choir, an adaptation of the Venezuelan “Manos Blancas” choir for children with special needs and abilities, striving to implement an effective and powerful example of integration through music.
A very prestigious engagement was the invitation to perform at the 150th anniversary of the Società del Quartetto di Milano, on June 2014 at the Milan Conservatory, where the SONG Choir presented the complete “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff together with FuturOrchestra.
